Schoelhorn-Albrecht Building - 1874
721 N 2nd Street
Two buildings of the Shoelhorn-Albrecht Machine Company complete the west side of the 700 block of 2nd Street and Morgan Street. 721 N 2nd is a four-story building, three bays wide. Brick pilasters rise to carry Tudor Gothic arches at the top of the building, a unique feature in the area and one which indicates an ear date for the building. 723 N 2nd, a three-story building at the corner, is also an early building with a varied pattern of arched windows in the four bays.
The Schoelhorn-Albrecht Machine Company ran its business from here, building steamboat engines and capstans for river boats built in Alaska and used on the Yukon River during the gold rush.
